My research is strongly interdisciplinary oriented and covers different aspects of 20th century history
Main research interests & fields of expertise:
- film history and cinema (esp. 1930s to 1950s)
- Second World War, Nazi Germany, the Holocaust & its aftermath
- postwar Europe: society & culture
- gender & masculinity
- critical military history: war, soldiers, the military as social institution
- history of law and justice, esp. Nazi military courts, war crime and genocide tribunals
- genocide and memory
- 20th century (social and cultural) Austrian history
About me:
After studying history, political science and gender studies at the universities of Vienna and Bern I went on to work as a historical researcher and language teacher in Vienna for several years. I continued my studies in England and graduated with a PhD in Film History from the University of Portsmouth in January 2009. From 2009 until 2013 I held postdoctoral research & visiting fellowships at the University of Southampton, the German Historical Institute Washington, D.C., the Zentrum für Zeithistorische Forschung (ZZF) Potsdam and the Forschungsstelle für Zeitgeschiche Hamburg, Germany.
